Real Estate Photography: Licensing Photos for Real/Commercial Estate Photography |
| Licensing Photos for Real/Commercial Estate Photography Posted: 02 May 2020 06:02 PM PDT So far I have done three, soon to be four shoots for a guy who builds new houses. I initially reached out to him back in January about doing photos for him. We met in person and talked for awhile. I later emailed him that I would charge $125 per house. He agreed but after a few weeks he decided to go with a more seasoned photographer. Mid April he reaches out to me again saying he needs me for photography and his more season'ed photographer didn't deliver a good job. So, I have already sent the photos to him of the first three houses and he has put them on his website. The problem is that I don't know how long he will keep them on his website or if he plans on deleting them after he sells. My mistake was never discussing this with him. How would I re-approach the situation to him about licensing photos with him. Another question I have is that when I was going around doing free work for people to build my portfolio around February a lady messaged me asking about taking photos of their newly remodeled kitchen for a competition. However I didn't notice the message from that particular app until a month later. I replied saying that if they were still interested in me photographing their kitchen I would love to and gave them my phone number. They reached back out to me last week asking if I could photograph their kitchen, den and bathrooms. I said sure, I'd be happy to. She asked how my portfolio building was going and I told her it was going great and I'm doing mostly paid work now. She asked how much I charged and I told her. I finally met her this on Friday and she mentioned she would be using these photos for their company's website as they have no photos. I started taking the photos and she came to me saying she was going to pay me what I told previously told her my price was because she didn't want to feel bad. I took the photos of those spaces and quickly realized this is taking a bit longer than my normal real estate shoot. Also when it came to editing, I noticed it was taking me a bit longer to edit as well. I've already sent her the images and told her she is free to use those images for 60 days but if she wanted to continue using the photos she would need to license them for continued use. She also mentioned she wants me to shoot an upcoming, newly remolded and furnished apartment they will be using solely as an extended (30+ days) AirBnB. Now I am at a loss for how much to charge for that shoot and licensing. The Real Estate Photographers in my area fluctuate between $100 for any size house to starting at $170 for a 2ksqft and lower.
