Flash + ambient shooters, how do you deal with ceiling fan shadows?

I figure there must be a better what to deal with this than I have been. My base exposure is usually a flash bounced off of the ceiling right above/behind the camera. But I often get really bad shadow from ceiling fans.

I usually use luminosity blending mode for my ambient layer and if I try to brush in ambient over the shadow, I get a weird discolored looking swatch where the shadow was.

I sometimes use a heal layer over the top of everything and heal/clone out the the shadow from the ceiling fan. It works but it's very tedious.

Sometimes I also duplicate the ambient layer and use normal blending mode just for the section of shadow I am trying to correct. Then I often have to mask in a desaturation adjustment afterwards to fix the color cast. Again, it works but it's very tedious.

Amy better suggestions to correct this either during the shoot or in post?

'Job Shadow' Video Shooting a House

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 10:56 AM PST

I came across a YouTube video of someone shooting a house. The photographer, Jordan Nielsen, basically takes you through what a shoot looks like for him. If there are newer photographers in this group it might be something to watch. I was wondering if anyone has seen this video and had any critiques on it as I am trying to get a feel of what a shoot entails, the shots to take, etc.

I noticed that he works quite fast and gets as many shots as he thinks he needs. This came at a cost of keeping his photos level and straight. Most of his pictures were skewed, which he said he would fix in post. Is this how most of you work? It was most apparent when shooting the exteriors; he did not maximize the height of his tripod.

I am wondering what else I should take out of this video, good and bad. If anyone else has seen it or will watch it, let's discuss!
